Choosing Your Vein Provider

The recent advancements in vein treatment technology have been exciting, but have also led to confusion with the rush of new hospitals and providers just starting out treating varicose veins. As a potential patient of our practice or any practice, this is what you should know about treating varicose veins so you can make an informed decision about the best care for your legs:

  1. The 3 most effective ways to treat varicose veins are Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLT), Sclerotherapy, and Micro-phlebectomy. In some cases, a custom combination of all three of these treatments is necessary for optimal results. Any vein treatment facility that does not offer you all three treatment options is doing an incomplete job and your results may not satisfy you.  Many hospital groups or new clinics that are just starting out in vein treatment may only offer you the laser, and refer you out for Sclerotherapy or Phlebectomy.  Not only is this more inconvenient for you, it can be more expensive to visit multiple different doctors to receive complete care. At Veins Without Surgery, we offer all three services under one roof.
  2. Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLT) was approved by the FDA in 2004, making it a new technology that is still not taught in medical schools or residency programs for physicians. The only way to know if your provider is competent in performing EVLT is their experience and results. At Veins Without Surgery, we have performed over 4,000 EVLT procedures with a 99% success rate. You can view numerous examples of before and after pictures of satisfied patients here on our website. After 7 years of experience, we are able to finish most EVLT’s in about 30 minutes.
  3. Your consultation should be done by a physician. Many facilities may have a medical assistant, nurse, technologist, or physician assistant conduct your initial consultation. At Veins Without Surgery, even your initial consultation plus every appointment for treatment will be conducted by me, Dr. Garg, or my partner, Dr. Bradley Ashpole.

I hope the above has been helpful and informative for you to make an informed decision about your vein care. Please feel free to contact me or any of my vein clinics in Chicago, Naperville, & Schaumburg if you have any questions. – Narendra K. Garg, M.D.
